Starting in mid-2026, oversized vehicles will be rerouted from Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway to improve and protect resources.

Did you know the historic Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway was built almost 100 years ago? With today’s oversized vehicles, some cannot use the road without crossing the center-line into oncoming traffic. And vehicles over 50,00 pound exceed the weight limits for multiple historic bridges. Also, vehicles taller and wider than the limit cannot pass through the historic tunnel without stopping oncoming traffic. With these issues, a change in traffic flow is needed.
