The Utah Office of Tourism’s Community & Partner Relations team, in collaboration with the Global Markets team, embarked on a Partner Tour to Uintah County. With its rich history, iconic culture, and breathtaking landscapes, Uintah County—fondly known as Dinosaurland—proved to be an unforgettable destination.

Our journey began at Vernal Brewing Co., where we met Lesha Coltharp, Uintah County’s enthusiastic tourism director. The food and ambiance set the perfect tone for the evening, offering a stellar vibe that showcased Vernal’s welcoming spirit.

Later, we joined the local community for a limited showing of a locally written and produced musical celebrating the adventurous life of John Wesley Powell, the legendary explorer. Set in the county’s outdoor theater under the cool summer skies, the production’s lively music had the audience tapping their toes and sharing in the explorer’s amorous and daring escapades.

The next day kicked off with a morning meet-and-greet at the 7-11 Ranch Restaurant, where the UOT team connected with the County’s tourism board and industry partners. After presenting an overview of UOT’s mission, we had the chance to engage in insightful discussions with passionate local partners. Their enthusiasm and commitment to the region’s tourism future were truly inspiring.

The day’s exploration began at Steinaker State Park and Red Fleet State Park, two of Uintah County’s standout destinations. Though the iconic “ships” at Red Fleet were impressive, the real excitement came from seeing the new developments underway at the park.

Next, we ventured into Ashley Gorge to learn about the Via Ferrata currently being constructed. This "iron way" promises to be a thrilling addition to Uintah County’s already impressive array of outdoor adventures.

No visit to Uintah County is complete without a tour of Vernal, where dinosaurs reign supreme. From colorful statues to murals scattered throughout the town, dinosaurs are everywhere—reminding visitors they’ve entered the heart of Dinosaurland.

The tour showed that Uintah County is more than just a gateway to prehistoric wonders; it’s a dynamic destination blending history, culture, and outdoor adventure. With several tourism assets already thriving and exciting new developments on the horizon, Dinosaurland hasn’t lost its edge—it’s sharpening it.
