The purpose of these market profile sheets is to give a quick overview of the travel behaviors, forecasted trends, air connectivity, market conditions, and a general visitor profile for each of the major international markets the UOT is highly invested in.
A new feature that we added to this year’s version is that we hyperlinked to the webpage of a Utah tour package from each of the top wholesaler and tour operators in that market to demonstrate the partnership and exposure that we’re receiving from these industry stakeholders, as well as to give more context on how our state is being positioned by these travel trade partners.
Please be assured this is not the sole promotion of our state from the packages listed, as our destination is receiving significantly more promotion from each of these tour operators across additional tour packages, within their customized and tailor-made trips for FIT guests, and for ad-hoc bookings. These links to tour packages are solely an example of their Utah product for your knowledge.
We also listed the top receptive tour operators for each market to help with your knowledge of who the top tour operators are primarily contracting with in each market.
Recommended Usage
As you work to get additional partners in your individual counties involved in more international efforts, especially those with limited experience working in these markets, these profile sheets are a great tool to provide a base level knowledge of the travel behaviors and cultural differences to help prepare the frontline hospitality staff, the hotel sales managers, visitor services desks, and more for best practices with working with these international visitors. We highly encourage you all to share this with your lodging and restaurant consortiums, your visitor services teams, outfitters and guides, and other tourism partners that you are onboarding for international readiness training. These are all print-ready and you are welcome to share the physical copies out as well.
Receptive tour operators are local wholesalers of tourism products (accommodations, guided activities, etc.) who create packages to market to tour operators around the world. These operators play a role in getting your product into tour itineraries globally, which expands your destination’s reach and audience considerably. If you'd like more information about how receptive tour operators play a part in the international market check out this Youtube video.
If you are interested in selling to the international market, work with your hotels and lodging properties to partner with an operator to increase international bookings to your destination. For more information, please contact Emma Kwanin, our Global Markets Specialist, at [email protected].

The Utah Office of Tourism attends the following domestic and US-based international trade shows throughout the year. Contact Emma Kwanin, our Global Markets Specialist, at [email protected] to find the right opportunities for you.

Every fiscal year, the Utah Office of Tourism contributes to the Brand USA marketing programs every fiscal year. This contribution may include attendance at the Brand USA sales missions, trade shows/virtual trade shows, execution of global consumer marketing via Brand USA affinity marketing channels, participation in the Discovery Badge training program for travel agents globally, and other various programs provided by Brand USA. Brand USA, in turn, offers additional value via 20% marketing uplift or via additional added value through their advertising partners and travel trade partners. The Utah Office of Tourism’s level of participation varies every fiscal year, although some programs include partner co-operative marketing opportunities and/or other peripheral partner involvement opportunities. You can learn more about Brand USA and its partner programs and resources here. You may also contact Rachel Bremer, Director of Global Markets, at [email protected].

Our in-market representation firms create co-operative marketing opportunities for Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) partners to be able to engage and market in each international market at different levels. This serves as an excellent way to enter a market before joining a sales mission or maintain market education and brand awareness. Opportunities presented include opting into Online Travel Agent (OTA) campaigns such as Expedia or TripAdvisor, joining a traditional tour operator co-operative marketing campaign, leading an agent training webinar, joining a larger multi-channel digital/programmatic campaign, a printed guide opportunity, or a consumer activation. These co-ops are typically extended to partners at the beginning of every fiscal year, and sent out by the market managers.
