2019 Cafeteria Programs
Valued Utah tourism partners,
This spring, UOT’s contract with Ad+Genuity Inc. the firm developing and executing the Cafeteria Plan will expire. The approaching deadline provided us with an opportunity to reflect on whether the program is accomplishing its original goals and evaluate the Cafeteria program’s significance relative to the traditional co-op program.
Key challenges discovered in this evaluation included:
The program was intended to facilitate co-op for the smaller partners. These partners have been successful at submitting programs through traditional co-op.
The program was intended to help partners buy into international programs. Few partners utilized this in the cafeteria plan and many of the planned initiatives didn’t have sufficient buy-in to execute.
From this evaluation, we have decided to discontinue the media offerings within the Cafeteria plan and will not open an RFP for a new contract to administer the plan. We will continue to offer Destination Development (DD) and reporting tools along with a limited number of coordinated marketing programs through the Cafeteria plan.
Making these changes will:
Eliminate program administration fees paid to the contractor, increasing funds available in the traditional co-op program. Traditional co-op programs can be better designed to meet the individual organizations’ marketing and reporting needs.
Increase available funding for new destination development programs.
Continue marketing programs like the Australia ski show and international market entry programs. These programs will continue to be offered in the Cafeteria plan as they require coordination from the UOT team and it would not be feasible to execute them under the traditional co-op.
We know you will begin planning your co-op applications shortly and with these changes to the cafeteria plan, we want to facilitate a smooth and successful co-op process. We are here to provide additional information on our destination development and research programs and to answer questions you may have about the traditional co-op application process.
