Last year, the state of Utah launched the official Visit Utah GeoTour with an ambitious goal to place five high-quality caches in all 29 counties for a total of 145 caches. UOT currently has 100 Utah GeoTour caches in place throughout the state. And though the GeoTour isn’t fully installed, enthusiastic cachers are eagerly following their GPS and hitting benchmarks in the tour.
The GeoTour is already attracting visitors from all over the world to offbeat locations throughout the state.
The GeoTour is UOT’s very own breadcrumb trail leading visitors from all over the world to spectacular and fascinating locations throughout the state, which they would otherwise never think of going. Geocachers know that the UOT and our tourism partners want to share all that makes our state the best destination in the world, and our local geocaching community wants to share their passion for well-conceived, creative geocaches that will earn “favorite points.”
Typically, avid geocachers love the thrill of making a find or discovery. It’s the thrill of the find that inspires the geocacher to find more caches. Some 99 percent of the two million or so geocachers from all over the world use one website, Geocaching.com. But not all caches are created equal, and the GeoTour offers additional incentive to cachers.
