From The Managing Director
Thanks to Governor Jon Huntsman and the Legislature for their outstanding efforts in a very tough budget year! The landmark legislation that was passed concerning Energy, Liquor Laws, Health Reform, Motion Picture Incentive Legislation and of course, the budget, were done with great unity and total commitment. We have attached a link to the very fine legislative recap done by the Park City Chamber. If you haven't seen it, we believe it's a great overview of issues relating to our industry and the state.
Spring brings renewal and new activities! We appreciate our working relationship with Danny Richardson and UTIC to prepare an informative, educational tourism conference at the Davis Convention Center, May 13, 14 & 15th. And of course, it wouldn't be Davis County and Barbara Riddle's area if there wasn't great hospitality and networking opportunities lined up for the tourism conference. You won't want to miss what Barbara is putting together for the opening night activity! Make certain you register at www.utahtourism.org now!
Finally, in preparation for the tourism conference, don't forget to: 1) think about whom you may wish to nominate to the Utah Tourism Hall of Fame and, 2) enter your marketing pieces in the marketing awards program. Links to the criteria and applications for both are listed to the left in the "Coming Up" section. Past recipients of the Hall of Fame award have included the Goulding Family, Ken Knight, Beth Gurrister, Dick Bass, Bob Syrett, and many others since the awards were created in 1985.
Thanks to all of you for your great efforts! I hope you are enjoying "Utah Life Elevated" on the slopes or in the red rocks...or both!

Mens Fitness: Visit Follows SLC "Most Fit City" Ranking
This week the Utah Office of Tourism is hosting Jesse Huffman, a professional snowboarder and contributing writer for Men's Fitness magazine. His article will feature the ease and affordability of using the UTA transit system to access the Wasatch Mountain backcountry for splitboarding (a snowboard convertible to a set of touring skis). The feature will appear in Dec./Jan. 2009/2010 issue, consist of 800-1200 words and span several pages.
Also in Utah this week: The Utah Office of Tourism in conjunction with statewide partners is hosting an "International Super FAM." The trip includes 19 journalists from around the world visiting destinations throughout the state. The tour starts in Antelope Island, then heads south to Moab, Monument Valley, Capitol Reef, Bryce, Zion, then back north to Thanksgiving Point, Sundance & Sandy.
