Jeff Fontaine Reception at Julie Nester Gallery - Jeff Fontaine is a painter from Portland, OR. His medium is oil and mixed media on steel. In this latest series of paintings Fontaine focuses on the innate beauty created as manmade objects break down and naturally age. Each work is based on photographs the artist has taken of old signs, rusting train cars and crumbling architecture. Many of the patterns and the imagery in the paintings are taken directly from these documented surfaces. They are recreated in his work to loosely reference the function of the original object. The paintings consist of “quilted” metal panels, which play on color balance, textures, lines and geometric juxtapositions. Please join us for the opening reception on July 3, 5:30-8pm.

Patriot's Day 4th of July Tea Party - Utah Conservatives to gather for Patriotic Tea Party
Local citizens will host the Patriot Day Tea Party July 4.
This Independence Day will be full of barbeques and fireworks. But for some Utah Conservatives of all political parties, it’s more than a day of celebration; it’s a day of action.
The Patriot Day Tea Party will be held July 4 in Orem at Lakeridge Junior High’s football field from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is an opportunity for citizens to speak out in support of the Constitution while being inspired by a selection of speakers and musicians.
“There is no better way to celebrate America’s Independence Day than fighting for our freedom,” says event organizer Candace Salima. “We must maintain the Constitution as the rule of law in America. This is what our Tea Party is all about. Demanding that our voices be heard.”
In addition to the voices of concerned citizens, there is a lineup of speakers and performers, including Attorney General Mark Shurtleff, Representative Brad Daw, Candace E. Salima and up-and-coming singer Shaun Barrowes, Angela Winston, One Voice Childrens Jill Camp Swensen and Ryann Race of "So You Think You Can Dance".
“Bring your blankets, bring your signs and make your voices heard,” says Salima. “We invite the public to take a break from their festivities for a time and stand together to defend this great nation.”

Utah and American History Series: Massacre at Mountain Meadows - Utah and American History Series: Massacre at Mountain Meadows
On September 11, 1857, local militiamen in southern Utah, aided by American Indian allies, massacred about 120 Arkansas emigrants who were traveling by wagon to California. The horrific crime, which spared only 17 children age six and under, occurred in a highland valley called the Mountain Meadows, roughly 35 miles southwest of Cedar City. For a century and a half the Mountain Meadows Massacre has shocked and distressed those who have learned of it. Historian and author Richard E. Utah and American History Series: The Limits of Dissent–Lincoln - Utah and American History Series: The Limits of Dissent–Lincoln and the Constitution. From his days as an Illinois Lawyer to his turbulent days in the White House, Abraham Lincoln staunchly defended the U.S. Constitution and the rule of law. Interestingly, Lincoln’s enemies, then and since, have seen him as a usurper of the Constitution, particularly during wartime. Lincoln’s example raises questions twenty-first century citizens are
facing: What are the limits of dissent in wartime? Under what
circumstances should compromises to civil liberties be accepted? How
should citizens deal with laws they consider unjust? Dr. Matthew Mason,
professor of history at BYU, will explore these issues in a public
discussion made possible by the Utah Humanities Council.

Star Spangled Girl at Heritage Theatre - Andy, played by BJ Whimpey of Farr West and Norman, played by Derek Williamson of Harrisville are two earnest young me using their apartment as a publishing office for a “protest” magazine set in San Francisco. Sophie, played by Samantha Christensen of Logan, an Olympic swimmer and all-American girl, moves into another apartment in the same floor. Sophie makes her first appearance paying a good-neighbor visit to the combination home and office of the fledgling publishers. Her friendliness and charm leave Norman hopelessly smitten. Thereafter love, with him, is a determined madness, with the humor of it heightened by her frantic rejection of him. Meanwhile, his partner is fielding telephone calls from the irate printer, who wants to collect the money due him, and distracting the landlady from thoughts of back rent with motorcycle rides and surfing expeditions. And while Sophie is convinced that they are editing a dangerously subversive magazine, our heroine soon finds that her real source of annoyance is that they wrong man is pressing his attentions on her. Happily this situation is reversed in time, as love and politics blend delightfully in a bubbling series of funny happenings, set forth with the masterly skill and inventiveness that are hallmarks of Neil Simon.

Yin Yoga Workshop - Yin Yoga has the same goals and objectives as any other school of yoga; however, it directs the stimulation normally created in the asana portion of the practice deeper than the superficial or muscular tissues. Yin Yoga also targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that normally are not exercised very much in a more active style of asana practice. Suitable for almost all levels of students, Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat, and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles. While initially this style of yoga can seem quite passive, or soft, yin practice can be quite challenging due to the long duration of the poses. We can remain in the postures anywhere from one to twenty minutes! Yin and yang tissues respond quite differently to being exercised. You need to experience this to really know what Yin Yoga is all about. After you have experienced it, even just once, you may realize that you have been doing only half of the asana practice.

Jul. 25 - Aug. 1 - Green River
26th Annual Classical Music River Journey - The yearning and often need to get back to nature and get in harmony with one's inner soul is much of the appeal of river rafting trips. The raft, an oar, a tent and gourmet food plus miles of river and scenic beauty and the natural song of nature singing to you. While traditional raft trips have relied on the laws of nature to stage blending the "call of the Wild" with some classical refinements. The sounds become richer and more complex, a symphony of nature and mankind, blending in perfect harmony.
A contrast of cultures? Not for the river and classical music enthusiasts participating on Bill Dvorak's Kayak and Rafting Expedition's Annual Classical Music Green River Journey. Each morning, as heads pop out from tents pitched alongside a river bank, the smell of coffee brewing in the air seems to be the perfect blend with a splash of Mozart, Beethoven or Ravel, as members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic warm-up for the eight day musical river journey down Desolation and Gray Canyons.
In keeping with the mood and sounds of each day's magical journey, mixed with a little "river magic," the dining experience further enhances the trips' ability to satiate the soul. Come evening, a tray of hors d'oeuvres and wine begin the evening's gastronomic feast, followed by a dinner of Blackened Salmon, special salads and Black Forest Cake for dessert - a mere sampling of the river delicacies prepared each day. "This trip is pampered, if not the most memorable sophisticated adventure you ever take," said Dvorak.A fifth generation cousin of the famous composer, Anton Dvorak, Bill Dvorak has been running rivers commercially longer than anyone else in Colorado.
Guests join four to five members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic on a seven to eight day journey of Bach, Beethoven, Ravel and the company's namesake, Dvorak. Four or more concerts are scheduled throughout the week-long tour, including a formal concert near the conclusion of the tour. The concert halls are the acoustically rich stages of the slickrock canyons and caverns located along each river, or an open-air stage nestled among Ponderosa pine and Douglas fir. The trips are leisurely, allowing ample time to soak up the sun, read, float along the river and listen to daily practice sessions. In addition to the rafting and music, each trip includes side excursions to Anasazi ruins, wildlife viewing, hiking and impromptu land and river musical performances.

Gallery MAR's “Textured Stories” New works by Mary
New works by Mary Scrimgeour and Ron Russon- Reception on Friday, July 31st, 2009 6 to 9 p.m.
Come and meet the artists. Russon paints in oil, employing a loose brush and pallet knife to varied scenes, from a serene resting tractor in a windrowed field of hay to a cacophony of geometric colors creating luminescent bison. Through both abstraction and realism, his art reflects his relationship with nature and his communication with the outdoors. Scrimgeour interprets the world by painting what she sees and feels. Her paintings, thick with paint and imagery, often begin with a story or narrative. Her love of children, a sense of humor, and a compassion for people are some of the emotions she blends with her vision. In conjunction with the Park City Arts Festival and the Park City Gallery Association’s Gallery Stroll.

Terry & Nancy Clark - Gospel Singers - Gospel music at it's best!
Terry and Nancy Clark’s music is designed to direct the listener to an intimate relationship with God. Clark’s spiritual roots run deep in the Gospel message and music and their songs are simply windows through which one can see and participate in that private relationship.
Terry’s first recordings Welcome and Melodies, were contemporary Christian albums on Good News Records/Word and contained several Christian Music radio “hits” in the late 70s and early 80s. Those songs and Terry’s personal ministry have led the way to that same intimate relationship with diety for many and were recorded on albums entitled Living Worship and Let’s Worship. This concert is sponsored in part by the Calvary Chapel of St. George.

Sundance Institute Outdoor Screening: Riding Giants - Riding Giants, 2004 Sundance Film Festival Official Selection
Director: Stacy Peralta
Riding Giants, Stacy Peralta's surfing sequel to his Sundance debut and award winner, Dogtown and Z-Boys, is a multigenerational insider's look at the origins of surfing, the colorful and subversive birth of surf culture, and the mythology and lure of the "big wave." This passionately fluid film is the first authentic history of surfing from its humble Hawaiian beginnings to the big business it became to the still-rebellious waves it breaks today.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers - The Uintah Arts Council's Outlaw Trail Theater proudly presents it's 2009 summer production of "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" outdoors, under the stars, at the Outlaw Trail Amphitheater at Western Park in Vernal. “Goin’ courting has never been as much fun as in this rip-roaring stage version of the popular MGM movie, adapted by Lawrence Kasha and David Landay. Millie is a young bride living in the 1850s Oregon wilderness whose plan to civilize and marry off her six rowdy brothers-in-law to ensure the success of her own marriage backfires when the brothers, in their enthusiasm, kidnap six women from a neighboring town to be their brides.
Bursting with the rambunctious energy of the original film, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers is all boisterous fun and romance that harkens back to the glory days of the movie musical.

Plays featured this season in repertory are: The Comedy of Errors, Henry V, As You Like It, Foxfire, Private Lives, and The Secret Garden. Contact the Theater Box Office, 1-800-PLAYTIX or www.bard.org.
June 29 to August 29, 2009 - The Comedy of Errors by William Shakespeare
Directed by Kirk Boyd in the Adams Shakespearean Theatre
Antipholus and Dromio are bewildered. Everywhere they go, they seem to have already been there. And the more they try to unravel the lunatic events around them, the more farcical their lives become. It’s double the laughter and twice the fun in Shakespeare’s youthful comedy of, not one, but two sets of twins and the shenanigans swirling around them.
June 30 to August 28 - Henry V by William Shakespeare
Directed by J. R. Sullivan in the Adams Shakespearean Theatre
Prince Hal has inherited the throne as King Henry V—and now faces his first major challenge against the mighty French army. Quickly, the new king must act. He can fall back to his boisterous youth or he can rush to the fore and attack. His St. Crispin’s Day speech is stunning, but is it enough to rally his countrymen around their new king?
June 30 to August 29 - As You Like It by William Shakespeare
Directed by David Darlow in the Adams Shakespearean Theatre
Rosalind has a problem. Disguised as a boy to help her father, she has also fooled her beloved Orlando, who now asks this boy/woman to help him woo the woman of his dreams—none other than Rosalind herself! What’s a girl (or boy) to do? For Rosalind, the answer is easy: play the game to the end in this rollicking frolic of confused courtship, beautiful poetry, and unsurpassed wit.
July 2 to August 29 - Foxfire by Susan Cooper and Hume Cronyn
Directed by Kathleen F. Conlin in the Randall L. Jones Theatre
“We was lucky. We didn’t have no choices,” Hector once told his wife, Annie. But Annie does have choices, lucky or not. She can leave her Appalachian farm, or she can stay on the cabin porch with her memories, the old apple orchard, and the expansive mountain vistas. This surprising, emotionally-rich play will cause all of us to think about our own roots, our loves, and the choices we make.
July 3 to August 28 - Private Lives by Noel Coward
Directed by Joseph Hanreddy in the Randall L. Jones Theatre
Love nearly is a fight to the death in this witty and glittering comedy. Elyot and Amanda (once married to each other) find themselves in adjoining honeymoon suites (now both recently remarried to others). One thing leads to another, and they soon rekindle their old relationship, realizing that not only do they love, but (more importantly) they love to hate each other.
July 4 to August 29 - The Secret Garden
Book and Lyrics by Marsha Norman, Music by Lucy Simon, Based on the Novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett
Directed by Jim Christian in the Randall L. Jones Theatre
A beautiful story for the entire family, this captivating musical tells of the orphaned Mary who goes to live with her emotionally stunted uncle. She soon discovers a secret garden, long locked away from the attentiveness of any caretaker. Mary brings sunlight and fresh air to the garden, and in the process unleashes the healing power of love and the miracle of rebirth.
